Two weeks ago, our hearts were enriched by the powerful message delivered by a guest preacher, James O. Davis from America, who came to our church in Singapore. During his sermon, he led us on a journey through the life of Enoch, as depicted in Genesis 5. His sermon also drew from the faith-filled narratives in Hebrews 11, which beautifully illuminate the heroes of faith. Faith, a subject of recent fascination for me, has taken centre stage in my spiritual quest. So much so that I eagerly bought James Davis’s enlightening book, “The Master Key to a Grand Life of Faith,” to explore this topic more deeply.
Enoch’s Remarkable Walk with God
Enoch’s life stands as a compelling testament to the transformative power of faith and intimacy with God. In the book of Genesis, we learn about Enoch’s extraordinary walk with God, a walk that set him apart from the others mentioned in Chapter 5. Enoch’s unique relationship with the Almighty was unmistakable, as he was singularly noted for walking closely with Him.
Hebrews 11, often referred to as the “Hall of Fame” for the faithful, reintroduces us to Enoch. This chapter reveals that Enoch was taken up to heaven without experiencing physical death because of his unwavering faith. His life was so pleasing to God that verse 6 emphatically declares that “without faith, it is impossible to please Him.” This passage serves as a call for us to believe in God and to diligently seek Him, knowing that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
On a personal note, I have come to realize that God has entrusted us with the faith He has planted within us. It is through our faith that we experience His saving grace. Our faith is the vessel through which we access His boundless blessings. We must maintain unwavering faith in the Lord, firmly believing that He is capable of providing us with everything we need.
The Essence of Faith – Beyond Belief
Enoch’s faith was so unshakable that he believed it was impossible to please God without it. This underscores a vital truth: faith transcends mere belief; it requires action. Faith is about implementing what we hear, about strategically planning for the sudden outpouring of divine glory that accompanies a life rooted in faith. The Bible unequivocally declares that without faith, it is impossible to please God. This profound statement prompts us to delve deeper into the essence of faith itself. According to Scripture, faith is not an abstract concept; it takes on substance, much like an object that we can grasp and hold. It is a tangible force that propels us forward on our spiritual journey.
Faith is about implementing what we hear, about strategically planning for the sudden outpouring of divine glory that accompanies a life rooted in faith.
As I continued my study on faith, I got on a journey of understanding its significance and its potential to transform my life. Let us remember that faith is not confined to mere belief; it demands action. It calls us to live out what we believe, just as Enoch did. My heartfelt prayer is that those around me may one day say of me, as they said of Enoch:
“Sandy seized every moment, walking closely with God, and…
Sandy lived a life of faith that brought pleasure to the Lord.”
Remember this: The measure of the Lord we possess is, after all, entirely within our control; we have as much as we desire.

Here are three to-dos: To-Do 1: Embrace a Closer Walk with God Just as Enoch’s life exemplified, prioritize nurturing a close and intimate relationship with God. Commit to spending quality time in prayer, meditation, and studying His Word daily. Seek opportunities to deepen your connection with God, knowing that it is through this close fellowship that you can experience the transformative power of faith. To-Do 2: Translate Belief into Action Recognize that faith goes beyond mere belief; it calls for tangible action. Take deliberate steps to put your faith into practice in your daily life. Whether it’s in your interactions with others, your decisions, or your ambitions, let faith be the guiding force that propels you forward, just as it did for Enoch. To-Do 3: Continuously Seek Deeper Understanding Engage in a continual pursuit of a deeper understanding of faith and its significance in your spiritual journey. Invest time in studying the Scriptures, reading inspiring books, and engaging in meaningful discussions with fellow believers. |
