Book of the month
Women of the Word: How to Study the Bible with Both Our Hearts and Our Minds by Jen Wilkin
I know we have both men and women who read our blog. But this book, even though it is titled ‘Women of the Word’, is a guide for both men and women as it teaches one to read and understand the Bible on a whole different level.
I was really challenged by the way Jen taught through her book what it is to be Bible literate, and understand the importance of going chapter by chapter, understanding the context, who wrote it, why it was written, and to whom it was written.
It really opened up my mind as I have been delving deeper into God’s word. So, I encourage you to read this book. It will open up your mind; it will give you a better understanding as to the what, why, when and how of the Scriptures. I pray that this book would help you learn the Word better, not just in a structured and chronological manner but also Holy Spirit-guided; a combination that would help one to deeply grasp the truth of His Word.
Pastor Matt Chandler wrote in the foreword:
“I am confident that as you learn and practice Jen’s Bible study methods, you will be enthralled by both the Bible’s stories and its story, and you will be forever changed as you come to know the Hero of that story”
I hope and pray the same for you.
Keep Reading, Stay Blessed.

Song of the month
Why— an Elevation Worship original done by Livin Paul.
The song is from Elevation Worship’s album LION. It was released earlier this year. The song begins with a humble acceptance of the plainness of the song; how there is no element of surprise in this song and that it reiterates all the things that has been written before.
What can I say of Your love
That has not already been said?
Were I to tell all the things You have done
I would run out of breath
So many songs have been sung
But how can I praise You enough?
So here’s another one
What can I say of Your love
That has not already been said?
Were I to tell all the things You have done
I would run out of breath
So many songs have been sung
But how can I praise You enough?
So here’s another one
The highlight is the chorus of the song:
Why
You love me like You love me
I’ll never know
Why
You love me like You love me
Your love is
Better than silver
Better than gold
Better than anything I’ve ever known
I’ll never know
Why
You love me like You love me
I’ll never know
Although it starts off questioning the reason behind God’s love for us, it also establishes the fact that His love for us is beyond reason.
The second stanza is more of a conversation than a song. Although, it won’t be tagged as a typical Sunday morning worship song, I see young men and women singing this in their quiet time. A conversation song, I call it. There is a comparison made to the display of love as that in Hollywood which I feel, resonates more with the younger crowd than old. Sadly, our idea of love circles around what the movies portray.
My favourite line is: “You don’t walk out when it is over, that is when I need You the most.” Sometimes, the answer to our prayers might turn out to pose a question for us. We need God not only to make a way, but also guide us along that way.
Real joy doesn’t always feel like laughter, no
Blessings don’t always come from the places I thought they would
Your love doesn’t look anything like it does in Hollywood
You don’t walk out when it’s over
That’s when I need You the most
I’ll never know
Overall, this song is a winner for the fact that it is raw and real. It does not use fancy or serious words to state a point but gently whispers how much we are loved through conversation and questions.
