“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” — Mark 4:39
Life often feels like a journey across a vast sea. Some days the water is calm, and the sky is clear. Other days, without warning, storms rise up—waves crash, winds roar, and the boat of our lives feels like it might sink.
Mark 4:35–41 paints such a picture. The disciples, though seasoned fishermen, were terrified when a sudden storm threatened to drown them. Yet, in the stern of the boat, Jesus was asleep—unmoved, unshaken, and at peace. When they cried out, He arose, rebuked the storm, and the sea obeyed His voice.
This passage became more than just a story for me. It became a mirror of my own journey.
On August 11, 2025, we marked four years since arriving in Singapore. But the path to get here was not smooth. Before entering Singapore, we left the UK, my Pappa suddenly passed away, a heartbreaking loss and then we were stranded in Thailand for three months, a time filled with uncertainty and waiting. Finally, the day we entered Singapore felt nothing short of a miracle, a divine intervention amid one of the stormiest seasons of our lives. Every plan seemed out of reach, every door closed, and the waiting was excruciating.
Yet, just as the disciples discovered on the Sea of Galilee, we too found that Jesus was in the boat with us. The day we finally entered Singapore was nothing short of a miracle—our own “Peace, be still” moment, when God made a way where there was none.
Looking back now, I realize that the storm wasn’t wasted. It tested our faith, stretched our trust, and deepened our dependence on God. Storms do that. They reveal where our hope truly lies. Just as muscles are strengthened through resistance, faith grows strongest in adversity.
The storm symbolized not only external challenges but also internal battles—fear, grief, and doubt. Yet, in the midst of the chaos, there was a stillness we could not explain. Like Jesus asleep on the cushion, God’s presence reminded us that peace is not the absence of trouble, but the assurance of His control.
Maybe you’re facing your own storm today—loss, uncertainty, or a season that feels unending. Hear this truth: you are not alone. The same Jesus who calmed the wind and waves is with you. He has not abandoned you. He is in your boat, and at His word, the storm must obey.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.” — Psalm 46:1–2
Storms don’t last forever. They pass. But God’s presence endures, His promises stand, and His peace carries us through to the other side.
I praise God for His faithfulness in one of the stormiest seasons of our lives. And I believe He will be faithful to you too—guiding you, sustaining you, and leading you safely across the waters.
So when the winds rise and the waves threaten, remember: Jesus is in your boat. And that changes everything.
Consider this Call on Jesus in your storm. Don’t try to row against the waves in your own strength—invite Him into your fear, doubt, and uncertainty. Anchor your faith in His promises. Write down verses that remind you of His presence and speak them over your situation. Look back with gratitude. Recall past storms He has carried you through—your testimony becomes the anchor for future trust |
