During a chat with my children, Judah and Sairah, about the recent solar eclipse and Jesus’s return, Sairah got emotional. She expressed doubt about loving Jesus as deeply as I do, which caught me off guard.
I comforted her, affirming God’s love and our shared journey. It hit me then: there is no greater compliment for me as a parent than when my child acknowledges and desires to mirror my love for Jesus. This seems evident through our daily lives together.
As parents, we play a crucial role in shaping and guiding our children’s beliefs, values, and faith. Children closely observe and absorb their parents’ actions, attitudes, and dedication, learning how to face life’s challenges through the prism of their parents’ faith. A parent’s love for Jesus can profoundly impact their children, leading them towards a deeper connection with God.
Proverbs 22:6 instructs us, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” This verse emphasizes the significant influence parents have on their children’s spiritual growth and development. By living a life grounded in faith, we lay a sturdy foundation for our children to build upon, instilling values that will endure through the years.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 further encourages us: “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” This scripture highlights the importance of consistently integrating our faith into everyday moments and conversations with our children.
Supporting and comforting a child like Sairah, who expressed uncertainties about her own faith, highlights the importance of journeying alongside our children in their spiritual path. By demonstrating a sincere, heartfelt love for Jesus, we can inspire our children to seek a profound relationship with God and embrace the hope of His awaited return.
As parents, let us continue to lead by example, embodying love, compassion, and faith in our daily lives, so that our children may be encouraged to walk in Jesus’ footsteps. Just as Matthew 5:16 encourages us to let our light shine before others, including our spouses and children, so they may witness our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven.
Through these everyday moments, like the one with Sairah, we are reminded of the powerful impact our faith can have on our children. Our dedication to Jesus can be the guiding light that helps them navigate their spiritual journeys, drawing them closer to the heart of God. Let us cherish and nurture these opportunities, knowing that through our example, we plant seeds of faith that will grow and flourish in their lives.
