For years, I understood God as King, the Great I AM, the Creator of heaven and earth. But the word Father? That felt distant to me. I grew up with a wonderful earthly father, but even then, I had certain restrictions in my relationship with him. I didn’t always run to him with my worries, hurts, or problems. He didn’t have the answers to my complicated questions, and, after all, he was human.
I called God “Father” with my lips, but it took me more than twenty years to truly grasp what that meant for my heart. He was my God, my Lord, even my Friend and Brother through childhood and early adulthood. But it wasn’t until my thirties that I experienced Him as Father—a Father who loves deeply, provides faithfully, and cares endlessly.
A Father Who Provides Unexpectedly
When the Bible says, “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 7:11), it reveals a truth I had overlooked for years. God is not just sovereign over the universe; He is a Father who surprises His children with good things.
In July 2025, I attended a conference where Pastor Abhilash Varghese from Tabernacle of David, Bangalore, prayed over me and spoke these words: “Oshin, you will play the stringed instrument!”
My immediate thought? “God, he must have made a mistake. I’ve played the keyboard all my life. Surely, You meant keys, not strings.” But the pastor confirmed again, saying God would orchestrate circumstances for me to pick up the guitar. Funnily, my husband had just gifted me a new keyboard for our wedding anniversary.
I left the thought there and said in my heart, “Lord, if this is really You, then You will provide.”
A few weeks later, during a casual conversation, a family friend mentioned they had a brand-new guitar lying untouched in the corner of their home. Without hesitation, they offered it to me. I didn’t ask, I didn’t strive, I didn’t even pray long and hard for it—God simply provided.
I call that Divine Provision.
As Habakkuk 2:3 says, “For the revelation awaits an appointed time… though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” And Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that “He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.”
God not only answered, He surprised me. Like a father who delights in giving his child a gift, He gave me what I didn’t even fully know I needed.
Think of a small child. She doesn’t wake up every morning anxious about where her next meal will come from. She doesn’t pace around the house wondering how the bills will be paid. Why? Because she trusts her father. She knows that he will provide, care, and protect.
In the same way, God wants us to live—not as fearful servants, but as beloved children. Too often, we approach Him only as a distant King or a strict Judge, when in reality He invites us to run into His arms as sons and daughters.
Romans 8:15 says, “The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.”
This is the role we are meant to step into—not outsiders knocking on heaven’s door, but children resting in the Father’s house.
Consider this: God is not only King over your life—He is Father to your soul. And just like He surprised me with a guitar, He longs to surprise you with His provision in the most unexpected ways. Trust Him, not just as the Great I AM, but as the Father who delights in giving you more than you can ask or imagine. God is a Wonderful Father He doesn’t only rule the universe—He bends down to hear your prayers, wipe your tears, and meet your needs. His provision is personal, not generic. Provision Comes in His Time and Way What we expect may not be what God gives, but His gifts are always better than our plans. Sometimes, He surprises us with things we never thought to ask for. Live as His Child, Not as a Stranger Don’t relate to God as though He’s far off. Step into your identity as His son or daughter. Children don’t beg their father; they trust Him. You are loved, chosen, and provided for. |
