In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to compartmentalise our activities—some tasks seem significant, while others feel mundane. My husband, Joel, often preaches about how there is no dichotomy in a Christian’s life. Every action, whether mundane or grand, holds equal value when done for the glory of God.
Throughout history, men and women of faith have exemplified this truth. George Müller, Corrie ten Boom, Elisabeth Elliot, and Amy Carmichael lived with a deep conviction that every moment, whether in service or suffering, was an opportunity to glorify God. Their lives echo Colossians 3:17:”And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
It’s easy to see preaching a sermon, writing a book, or leading a ministry as meaningful, but what about washing dishes, preparing meals, or engaging in daily conversations? Scripture reminds us that even these seemingly small actions are part of a greater story.
1 Corinthians 10:31 reinforces this idea: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
In my own life, I’ve come to recognize that homeschooling my children, welcoming people into my home, and having deep conversations with my husband are not just routine activities. They are sacred moments—threads in the grand design of God’s purpose. When done with a heart that seeks to glorify Him, every act of love and service becomes an offering of worship.
Jesus Himself highlighted the significance of simple, unnoticed acts of love.
In Matthew 25:40, He says,”Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”Every kind word spoken, every meal prepared, and every burden shared carries weight in the kingdom of God. What may seem ordinary to us is extraordinary in His sight.
Consider this: Before you dismiss the ordinary, remember that God is at work in the little things. Shift Your Perspective – Instead of viewing certain tasks as insignificant, see them as part of God’s greater purpose. Even in the mundane, His presence is with you. Do Everything as Worship – Whether you are at work, at home, or serving in ministry, approach each task as an act of worship, done with excellence and gratitude. Look for God in the Small Things – Often, the most profound moments with God happen in the simple, everyday acts of faithfulness. Open your heart to see Him in the details. |
