Book of the month:

Winning the War in Your Mind by Craig Groeschel.

I have read this book over and over again after the passing of my father. And every time it has been revelatory. It helped me deal with my own battle with negative thinking, labels put on me, and self-doubt. This book taught me practical ways to identify the lies the enemy wants you to believe. It doesn’t stop with that, it also showed me how to recognise those lies and short-circuit your mental triggers for destructive thinking by aligning every thought under the authority of Christ.

Groeschel has drawn parallels with the Scripture and the latest findings of brain science in this book and lays out strategies that aid one to free themselves from the grip of destructive thinking. It also gives a picture of what it means to live a life of joy and peace that God intends you to live.

Song of the month:

Rest on us by Maverick City Music ft. Upper Room

This powerful song has been our worship jam the past couple of days. The lyrics are simple but when it is sung, there is a change in the atmosphere—an echo of declaration, an awareness of the move of God. From the beginning to the end of the song, the artist helps the listener boldly enter the throne room of God and ask Him to rest on them with His Spirit.

Lately, my family has been very intentional about partnering with the Holy Spirit for the big and small things of life, and this song helps us to streamline our thoughts and actions towards our deliberate pursuit. The song is a combination of a confident declaration and a desperate cry for the Spirit of God to rest on us. I firmly believe that if we are hungry for more of the Spirit of God we will be filled—with His fruits and His power.

Here are the lyrics of the song:

As the Spirit was Moving
Over the Waters
Spirit come Move over Us
Come Rest On Us,
Come Rest On Us

[Chorus]
Come Down, Spirit when you Move
You make my Heart Pound
When you fill the Room
You’re Here and I know you are Moving
I’m here and I know
You will Fill me
