Whom the Son Sets Free Is Free Indeed
There is a question every believer must face: Are you living as a slave, or as someone truly free? Jesus’ words in John 8:36 ring with eternal authority: “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
Freedom in Christ is not a poetic idea or a distant hope. It is a present reality purchased by the blood of Jesus. He didn’t come simply to forgive us; He came to transform us and restore us to our original calling: dominion, righteousness, and true sonship in God.
How Jesus Sets Us Free
- Freedom Comes Through the Cross and Resurrection
Jesus didn’t free us with a whisper; He freed us with a victory.
On the cross, every chain shattered. In His resurrection, every believer rose into new life.
“Our old self was crucified with Him… that we should no longer be slaves to sin.” (Romans 6:6–7)
The same Spirit that raised Jesus lives in you (Romans 8:11), empowering you to walk free from the patterns and prisons that once held you. Confession is not a ritual; it is a declaration of new ownership (Romans 10:9).
You are no longer bound. You are no longer powerless.
Freedom is your inheritance.
- Freedom Begins With Surrender
Sometimes the chains are not visible. They cling to the heart.
The Rich Young Ruler obeyed commandments, but one thing owned him more than he owned it: his identity in wealth (Matthew 19:16–22).
What you refuse to release can quietly enslave you.
Jesus said we cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). Something, or Someone, will always sit on the throne of the heart. The only safe Master is God (Romans 6:22).
Freedom is not just breaking chains.
It is bowing to the right King.
So ask yourself:
What has mastered me? My thoughts? My emotions? My habits? My desires?
Destructive thoughts or self-pity
Words that tear down or deceive
Emotions ruled by anger, jealousy, or depression
Addictions (substances, lust, attention, control)
Every time we resist God’s voice, we choose slavery over freedom.
But what is impossible for man is possible with God!
- Freedom Comes From Identity
Many believers are saved but still walk like spiritual orphans. Forgiven but fearful, cleansed but insecure.
“The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.” (Romans 8:15–17)
You are not abandoned. You are chosen.
You are not a slave. You are a child of the King.
Galatians 5:1 reminds us: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.”
Jesus didn’t die for partial release. He died for complete deliverance and dominion.
Live like someone who belongs in the palace, not the prison.
The Call
John 8:36: “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
You are already free.
Now walk in it. Think free. Worship free. Live free.
| Consider This: Three To-Dos From The Blog Surrender Daily Ask the Holy Spirit: What still owns my heart? Lay down what competes with Christ—attitudes, habits, identities, or attachments. Speak & Think Like a Child of God Replace negative thoughts and words with Scripture. Declare who you are in Christ, not who your past says you are. Walk in Practiced Freedom Choose obedience over impulse. When temptation whispers, respond like royalty, not slavery: “I am free in Christ, and I live like it.” You are free. Not someday. Not halfway. Not conditionally. Free indeed. Now rise and live as His beloved child: bold, surrendered, and unshackled in Christ. |
