In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it’s easy to get caught up in what we can physically see and touch. Yet, as Christians, we are called to see beyond the seen, to perceive the hand of God moving in our midst, even in the midst of life’s trials and challenges.
Natural Vision vs. The Power of Spiritual Vision

Natural vision is indeed a gift from God, allowing us to navigate the physical world around us. However, it has its limitations. Our human understanding often fails to grasp the unseen realities that exist beyond the physical realm. This is where spiritual vision comes into play.
Spiritual Vision transcends the boundaries of the physical, enabling us to discern the handiwork of God in our lives, even when circumstances seem bleak.
Natural vision helps us see the physical world, but it has limits. Spiritual vision goes beyond, letting us see the unseen and understand God’s hand in our lives, even in tough times.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
– 2 Corinthians 5:7

To understand it better, let’s delve into the power of spiritual vision through the lenses of Hagar’s and Elisha’s encounters.
Hagar’s Encounter: Finding Provision in the Wilderness
Imagine the desperation of Hagar as she wandered in the wilderness with her son, Ishmael, with no water in sight. In her distress, she cried out to God, and He heard her. In a moment of divine intervention, God opened her eyes to a well of water that had been there all along, providing sustenance for her and her son. In the same place of despair, God’s provision was revealed, demonstrating His faithfulness even in the wilderness of our lives.
“And God was with the boy as he grew up in the wilderness.”
– Genesis 21:20
Elisha’s Servant: Seeing the Invisible Army
Elisha’s servant awoke one morning to find their city surrounded by the enemy’s army. Fear gripped his heart as he saw the physical threat before him. Yet, Elisha prayed for his eyes to be opened, and suddenly, the servant beheld a sight beyond the natural – the hills filled with horses and chariots of fire, representing the heavenly host sent by God for their protection. In that moment, fear was replaced by faith as the servant saw the unseen reality of God’s power at work.
“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!”
– 2 Kings 6:16
In both Hagar and Elisha’s stories, we witness how amidst isolation, oppression, depression, transgressions, frustrations, and temptation, God alone can grant us vision that leads to transformation, restoration, and redemption.
“Open my eyes, Lord.” This heartfelt cry echoes through the tales of Hagar and Elisha’s servant. In pivotal moments, their eyes were opened to the profound presence and power of God. Today, let’s pause to reflect on these narratives, seeking inspiration on how we too can experience the wonder of God’s work in our lives through opened eyes and receptive hearts.
As we journey through life, may we carry with us the lessons learned from Hagar and Elisha’s encounters with God. Let us embrace the truth that even in our darkest moments, God’s light can shine through, illuminating the path towards transformation and redemption. With open eyes and steadfast faith, may we walk through the challenges ahead, trusting in the promise that God’s presence and power are ever-present, ready to guide us towards a future filled with hope, restoration, and purpose.
Consider this Let us echo the prayer of Hagar and Elisha’s servant: “Open my eyes, Lord.” May we seek a spiritual vision that transcends the limitations of the natural, enabling us to see the wonders of God’s work in our lives.
