We have been working on this book project for a couple of months and by God’s grace everything panned out in a way that was beyond what we could think or imagine. Like Father, like father is not only a tribute to my earthly father, Pastor V. M. Samuel but also a record of the legacy that he left behind. Growing up, I have seen my father show me a little bit of God every single day of his life. He not only introduced me to my Heavenly Father but also taught me to walk in His ways. The book starts off with a quick peek into his early life—how he was before he accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Saviour. An aspiring politician, little did he know that he would live a life serving God and His people.

The following chapters go on to detail how he transitioned from a life of merely living out religion to forming a relationship with God. From his early days as a missionary to being a pioneer and visionary of Christian missions in South India, especially the state of Karnataka, his life has been a spiritual adventure. Throughout the book, one thing stands out—his “father-like” and “Father-like” nature.

All his life, he worked relentlessly in building God’s kingdom—a faithful servant, a humble missionary, and a Christ-like father, not just to his blood and flesh, but to the many he called his own. And this went on until the very end—the time in the hospital room.

It has been nothing short of an adventure, writing and getting it published. But God has been faithful to us through it all. I urge you to read it and be blessed.

Song of the month: Oh Lord, You’re Beautiful
By Keith Green

An oldie! Do you remember singing it as a child in church? I often wonder why it is not sung often nowadays. As a child, I only sung verse one but recently I happened to hear the chorus at our church here in Singapore. It spoke to me loud and clear and I have been humming it ever since.

Oh, Lord, You’re beautiful
Your face is all I seek
For when Your eyes are on this child
Your grace abounds to me

This is the verse most of us are familiar with. I like how we are tagged as ‘child’. It starts by acknowledging that our Lord is beautiful. The next line is a strong one—“Your face is all I seek” Ask yourself, is His face, all that you seek?

The next line is super reassuring. It talks about how His grace abounds on us when He places His eyes on us—Wow, Imagine a cataract of grace flowing from God’s throne when He looks at us.

I want to take Your word and shine it all around
But first help me to just to live it, Lord
And when I’m doing well
Help me to never seek a crown
For my reward is giving glory to You

The first line draws parallels to the Great Commission—to take His Word to the world. I love the next line which is a humble request to first teach us to live it and be an example. The lyricist takes humility a notch up in the last three lines to “never seek a crown” or be proud but remember that everything we do is for His glory.
